Die Gesellschaft für Völkerverständigung feiert seit vielen Jahren zusammen mit dem WERK 2 und der Leipziger Syrienhilfe das Interkulturelle Sommerfest. Das Fest findet, schon fast traditionell, auf dem Gelände des WERK 2 statt.

- Kinderschminken, Malen, spielerische Aktivitäten
- internationales Essen und Spezialitäten
- Stände mit multinationalen Kleidern und Accessoires
lernen sich die Menschen kennen.
Mit der Maxime »Für das Miteinander in der Gesellschaft« wollen wir insbesondere auf die Thematik Migration, Flucht und Integration aufmerksam machen. Das Interkulturelle Sommerfest gibt vor allem Menschen mit Fluchterfahrung eine Bühne und für Alle einen Raum der Begegnung. in manchen Jahren hatten wir wieder ca. 2.000 Besucher*innen. Durch einen offenen transkulturellen Umgang fördert das Fest ein solidarisches Zusammenleben und hilft Berührungsängste und Vorurteile abzubauen.
Das Sommerfest wird in 2023 gefördert durch das Referat für Migration und Integration, das Kulturamt und dem Stadtbezirksbeirat Süd der Stadt Leipzig.
Die Aufgabe der Gesellschaft für Völkerverständigung besteht vor allem in der Schaffung der Voraussetzungen, der Koordination und der Netzwerkarbeit. So steht ein solidarisches Miteinander nicht nur am Tag des Festes, sondern schon während der gesamten Organisation im Mittelpunkt. Denn wir wollen ein authentisches Bild der meist in Leipzig ansässigen Künstler*innen vermitteln und ihre Intergration damit erleichtern.
